As a modern society, we have forgotten the value of gathering in ceremony, in a manner where all participants are viewed as equal and valuable contributors to the whole. In a manner that allows us the freedom to feel, learn, experience, express and grow. We’ve forgotten what it truly means to be held in a space in which we are safe to explore both the internal and external realms.
My work and what I know to be my calling in life is largely based on getting back to the importance of ceremony. The importance of Rites of initiation and of gathering in ceremony to accomplish both personal and collective healing. This practice was something the ancients knew and understood, but in our modern lives we are left with only the fragmented remnants of this understanding and generally use ceremony more as an opportunity to party rather than one to be initiated and grow spiritually or heal as an individual or community.
I am happy to share that we are going to bring back Full Moon Ceremonies for exactly that reason, each month at the full moon Doug and I will host a Fire & Cacao Ceremony to honour Pachamama, our ancestors and ourselves and to call back our power and divine sovereignty.

On the eve of the 22nd July 2020 I awoke to find Mary Magdalene present once again, she had come to me before but not quite in this way. This time she was fully present, I could feel her being, her love and Compassion moving through me in waves. The more I recognised her; the more my mind, my ego began to intersperse these waves of pure unconditional love and Compassion with waves of nauseating anger. She would send me a wave of light language and DNA reconstituting love, Compassion and Divine knowledge and at receiving this wave light transmission, my ego and left-brain would revolt with fury. Not at her, but at the centuries that we have been denied the truth of the Magdalene. Rage at the lies and corruption of her name and her lineage.
The anger would rise in me, and then again, she would send another wave of love, of Compassion, of unconditional radical forgiveness. This carried on in varying degrees for the next week. From 22nd July to the 26th, I felt like I was being drowned and resurrected, again and again, bathed in Compassion and then anger, wave after wave. Until eventually on the eve of the 26th I surrendered, I simply let go. I could no longer justify my anger, my hatred and resentment at a system that had stolen from me a love so deep and unconditional. Mary Magdalene would no longer allow me to carry this rage at a religious system that had bastardised and blatantly lied about her identity. A system that had attempted to erase the role she played not only as a woman of incredible spiritual knowledge and guidance but also of the love and life she shared with Jesus. This system attempted, in vain, to erase her knowledge and teachings. In doing so, robbed generations of women and men of a Divine love, and an understanding of this love, as well as of our own inherent Sacred Sovereign Divinity. I so wanted to hold onto this rage, to hold onto the suffering of the injustice of it all, but she wouldn't let me.
The point is not, however, to rant on about the wrong that was done nor the lies that denied us access and experience of our own Divine Sovereignty. Although I could fill a book on that topic.
No, that was not the message Mary Magdalene came to give, she came to speak of Compassion. She came to speak of The Beauty Way and of how now, right now, during this powerful Lion's Gate of 2020 was when this old way would once again make itself known to those who are ready to walk the way of the Rose.
At first, I did not fully understand what Mary Magdalene meant when she repeated the word Compassion to me over and over again. I had understood compassion to be something akin to empathy, something that you offer externally to someone who is suffering. I had understood and interpreted the meaning of compassion to be an action, something given outward, like kindness. This interpretation was what had brought such fury and anger up in me in the first place as I genuinely do struggle to find compassion for those who defiled and attempted to erase the message and memory of Mary Magdalene from our collective consciousness. So it took a while of her having to subtly but repeatedly rewrite my wounded programming for me to begin to understand what she was trying to show me. What she had come to teach me.
She came to give me an understanding of Compassion (and I am capitalising it for a reason) as a Divine act of self-love. To teach me the tool of inward Sovereign Compassion, the system of the Beauty Way Compassion. This Sovereign Compassion is not an act of kindness or empathy that is shown to something or someone outside yourself. Instead, it's a deeply internal and meditative state in which we turn the eyes and I's of the mind inward and draw our entire being into the heart. This Compassion is a sacred act of self-love, of understanding our worth and Divine Sovereignty. It is a state that requires reverence to our own being as well as a willingness to not only acknowledge our shadow but to embrace it fully in radical forgiveness and unconditional love.
The resistance that rose within me as I began to comprehend what Mary Magdalene was asking of me was physically painful. Every part of my ego revolted at this concept, of a love so deep. At this message of a Compassion so all-encompassing that all my darkness, my unworthiness, shortcomings and crimes, both big and small, could be enveloped and dissolved in this act of Divine Compassion to self, that I could raise my vibrational frequency and clear both my own and ancestral detritus from my being through this practice. My ego wouldn't have it, and this battle of my ego holding onto its deep-rooted narratives of anger and suffering, and Mary Magdalene silencing me with her Compassion and Love carried on.
She is winning this battle though, as we move today into the full power of the Lions Gate portal. My ability to interpret and understand her message more clearly heightened by the clarity and 3rd-Eye opening sight granted to me at this time, she is winning, and I am beginning to understand the message of the Magdalene.
I am going to try my best to put into words here; I hope that those who read it feel it rather than judging it purely on my ability to interpret:
A Message from Mary Magdalene during Lions Gate 2020
There is only one way out of suffering, and that is the Beauty Way, it is the way of Divine Sovereign Compassion, it is the path to and through the heart. To access this path is treacherous as it requires us to turn inward wholly and to be willing to look at the entirety of our being and internal landscape through the eyes of the Divine, through the eyes of unconditional love and radical acceptance. It requires for the ego and character to be lovingly tamed and subdued. It requires that the shadow be acknowledged, recognised and thanked for the purposes it serves. It requires a radical internal honesty, that is neither pleasant nor easy to access. I have only experienced glimpses of this state as I write this and it is at times nauseating in its intensity and at others downright impossible to sit in because of the sheer discomfort it stirs up within. But in the moments, I have been brave enough to take Mary Magdalene's hand and allow her to lead me deep into the cave of my own heart. In the silence there, I am beginning to find this Compassion. It is a forgiveness so deep that no wrong done upon your being or by you is excluded from its reach. By allowing this Compassion to begin to permeate and penetrate your being, you are elevated, you are raised as the four angels raised Mary Magdalene seven times a day. You are lifted out of the enslavement and sorrow of your egoic humanity and placed gently back into the joy of your Divine Sovereignty. Mary Magdalene offers us a path back to our Sovereignty, a journey back to our Divinity and I for one, am going to walk it with her. I am ready to walk The Beauty Way.
I hope that more clarity will come on this message as I sit deeper with Mary Magdalene and allow her to lead me on this path, as the clarity comes I will share it and hopefully it will open The Beauty Way to you too.

Well hello June and hello winter! In the last week winter has revealed herself in all her icy glory. Here in Johannesburg it is freezing and dry and honestly for me the worst time of the year. I know one shouldn’t loath a season for all are necessary and we need to rest of winter so that spring can come again, but personally there really is nothing quite as awful as the dry dead and dreary highveld winter. Give me rain and snow and wet cold any day over this bone chilling, dehydrating yuck. Okay rant over, you get it, I don’t dig winter.
The other thing I don’t dig is the current obsession with sickness. Man o’ man does that get me going. So for June my focus is on cultivating a mindset and frequency focused on wellness!
We need to shift the narrative around our own well-being for ourselves and take back our power. The more empowered and healthy you are the less likely you are to be easily influenced and manipulated. The more you believe that your health and wellness is something external to yourself and that it can be gained through a pharmaceutical compound or a visit to a doctor the more you relinquish your sovereignty and your authority over self, the more our focus is drawn onto and into states of sickness, lack and threat and away from wellness, health, empowerment and abundance.
It’s time to reclaim your wellness and your right to be well, to know that you are safe, to feel free to breathe and to move and to raise your vibration, raise your frequency to match a state of wellness manifesting in your body and your life. Dr. Joe Dispenza put it perfectly when he said “According to the quantum model of reality, we could say that all disease is a lowering of frequency - When your nervous system is under the control of fight-or-flight mode, the chemicals of survival cause you to be more matter and less energy. You become a materialist because you’re defining your reality with your senses; you overuse the vital energy surrounding the cell by mobilising it for an emergency, and all of your attention goes towards the outer world of the environment, the body and time. If you keep the stress response turned on for and extended period of time, the long term effects keep slowing down the frequency of the body such that it becomes more and more particle and less and less wave. That means that there is less consciousness, energy and information available for atoms, molecules and chemicals to share. All of the individual subatomic fans making up your body then start spinning not only slower, but also out of rhythm with one another. This creates incoherence among the body’s atoms and molecules, which causes a weakened signal of communication such that the body begins to break down”
Once we understand this fact we can begin to invest our time and energy into practices, beliefs and actions that serve to raise our frequency and clarity of communication to the nervous system in that way empowers us and our loved ones to turn the tides of sickness, control and lack into one of compassion, wellness and abundance. So I am going to discuss here a couple of simple accessible techniques and practices you can employ to pull your nervous system out of survival fight-or-flight mode and back into a place of balance and frequential coherence.

7 access points to bring you back into your power and well-being:
Breathe - This is at the top of my list as it is something that in the current climate and regulatory environment is severely under threat. We are being regulated to wear masks that deprive us of oxygen and increase our intake of Co2. This has severe and long term effects of on the body and brain function and a powerful effect of your energetic and nervous system. I am not by any means telling you to break the law and not wear a mask. I am however telling you to understand and educate yourself on the effects that this is having on your physical, emotional and frequential health. I’m sure you have noticed that fairly quickly you will begin to feel like you can’t breathe, anxiety and the ability to make decisions and deal with things, even simple tasks like navigating the aisles in a supermarket are suddenly much more challenging than they should be and then there is the headache that will inevitable accompany this adventure into mild oxygen deprivation and the slow trickle of Co2 into your body. Added to the physical effects is the subconscious messaging that is received by your brain when you look around you and see people with their faces covered in masks, yes your logical brain understands that it is mandatory etc etc, but your subconscious sees this and interprets it as a threat and that is the message your nervous system absorbs and responds to. There are no positive connotations in our societal narrative to a masked face, it means a threat no matter how you slice it, it means illness, attacker, criminal, danger or silenced, muffled, suppressed and oppressed - there is simply no positive or non-threatening narrative connected with the obscuring of a persons face. This is our reality at this moment and not acknowledging what it is doing to our minds and body’s would be simply irresponsible. So let’s empower ourselves where and how we can. Take back your breath. Make sure you are spending as much time as possible each day consciously breathing. Go outside as often as possible and breathe. If you work in an environment where you are required to be masked all day make sure you are taking hourly breaks to go somewhere safe and breathe deeply. A good breath practice for this is a heart coherence breath technique - simply place your had on your heart spaced and breathe in for 5-6 seconds and then out for 5-6 seconds making sure that your breath is smooth and deep on the inhalation and exhalation. Basically we want to remember that our breath is our sovereign right and to reclaim and reconnect with that right and to mitigate the effects of being denied the right to free and open breath and connection.

Meditation - This is fundamental, it is a basic necessity to your health and well-being. Trust me you need this more than any other practice. If you have not yet cultivated a daily meditation practice there are innumerable resources available at this time to do so and I am happy to assist and guide you to some of these or to directly guide you into a daily meditation practice, so feel free to get in touch with me about this. The benefits of daily meditation are very well documented and innumerable studies have shown that these span across all aspects of our well-being from the purely physical, to the emotional, to the mental and all the way through to the spiritual, you simply cannot live a holistically high functioning life without cultivating a meditation practice.
There's an old Zen saying that is deeply rooted in truth - “You must meditate for 20 minutes a day, unless you're too busy, then you should sit for an hour”
We are fooled by the continuous over activation of our sympathetic nervous system (figh-flight-freeze) to believe that we don’t have enough time in a day to invest in practices like meditation, this is a stress loop illusion and the way to break that illusion and to physically shift your experience of time is to stop and meditate, even if you begin with only 5 minutes a day, you will never regret it and the benefits are so clear and identifiable that once you begin it will only become easier and easier to do.
Mindful Movement - Make sure you are engaging in some kind of mindful movement daily, whether that is a yoga practice, Qi gong, Tai Chi, Pilates or simply going for a long slow walk in nature - preferably barefoot. Make it something that requires conscious deep breathing and connection with intention to your body. Again if you need some assistance in this I can offer both yoga and Pilates, as well as recommend some incredible Qi Gong teachers if that interests you.
Grounding - This is my go to immune booster! I make sure that I spend time bare foot outside connecting with Pacha Mama's healing magic every singe day even if it is just a few minutes. Committing to this practice consciously and daily has had an incredible effect on my overall health and immune system. Extensive research has shown that connecting to the Earth’s natural energy, by walking barefoot can diminish chronic pain, fatigue and other ailments as well as boost immune system and help to reset the nervous system. This connection is referred to as Earthing or Grounding. Briefly put, when our bare feet or skin comes in contact with the earth, free electrons are absorbed by the body. These electrons could be referred to as nature’s antioxidants and help neutralise the damaging effects of excess free radicals that lead to inflammation and disease in the body. The Earth and all living beings are conductors of free electrons. As our bodies are composed mostly of water and minerals which in combination making us are excellent conductors of electrons from the Earth, providing there is direct skin contact or some other conductive channel for the electrons to flow through. This Earth energy upgrades our physiology by allowing our body’s to cope and repair thereby promoting well-being, increasing immune system function and reducing our stress response. Grounding also assists in harmonising and stabilising the body’s basic biological rhythms, reduces and can even eliminate chronic inflammation. It is simply the most natural and powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and immune boosting remedy available, and it’s free! There really is no downside to this practice, so make sure you spend some time each day bare foot to even bare bellied on the ground and let Pacha Mama take care of you health as she is meant to. Rest & Restoration - The importance of this cannot be overstated. When we are overworked, over stressed and quite simply over everything our immune and nervous systems cannot cope. We move into stress loops and the immune system becomes slowly more and more depleted until you get sick. You know this loop we’ve all been there. So how do we mitigate this? It’s simple, through conscious rest. This can be achieved through meditation or restorative yoga practices (contact me about our Alchemy Rest & Restore sessions) or by simply allocating time in your day to step back, take some deep breaths and focus on yourself and your own needs. Take a long candle lit bath in Epsom salts with some essential oils like lavender or Ascention Little Oil of Calm, drink some chamomile tea in the garden, practice yoni steaming, take a nap. What ever works for you, find some stillness and space to listen to your body and your heart and then do what it is asking you for. Remember that you cannot pour from an empty cup, you need to make time and space for yourself to refill your cup.
Nutrition - You are what you eat! Or to put it more truthfully “You are what you consume”. Become aware of what you choose to put into your body and energy system and why. The importance of becoming aware of what you choose to consume visually, environmentally and spiritually cannot be overstated. Become aware of how what you watch on TV or Netflix affects your state of being. Become aware of the social media you consume and how it makes you feel. Become aware of the mass media news you read, watch or listen to and how that effects your well-being. Become aware of the people you surround and associate yourself with and how they affect and influence you. This lesson of consumption is one I learnt years ago; but I still keep learning again and again on deeper and deeper levels, as I understand my well-being and the requirements of my energetic state to function at its most optimal levels. To be honest I am fanatical about what I watch, read or listen to, I haven’t watched the news or listened to any mass media radio station in years. I don’t watch TV unless it is something I know adds value to my state of being and is nourishing for me, I check in with my nervous system whenever we begin to watch a new show or series and if it doesn’t resonate with my highest expression and make me feel good then I don’t consume it. Believe me you really don’t need to engage in any mass media consumption at all, if there is something important you need to know, it will come to you organically, if it doesn’t you didn’t need to know it. It’s simple. So cultivate a respect for your emotional, physical and energetic well-being and begin to create awareness of what you are consuming, why you are consuming it and how it makes you feel. Check in with the things you feel resistance to releasing, for example you notice how every time you immerse yourself in your Facebook feed or listen to the news on the radio or TV you feel like shit. Those friends you keep hanging out with even though you find yourself feeling depleted and perhaps even getting ill after you spend time with them but you keep going back. You know it makes you feel like crap but yet you continue to find all kinds of reasons and justifications for why you have to do it so you just keep looping that feeling. Why are you resistant to releasing things that don’t serve you? Why are you resistant to releasing things that are not nourishing to you? Check out what you consume and begin to make choices that are nourishing!
Joy - Cultivate joy! Grow your gratitude! Believe in your bliss! I could give you a few more quippy phrases, but I think you get the idea. Make sure you seek out some joy in your day, make sure you laugh as often as possible, make sure you dive into deep states of gratitude. A Daily gratitude practice can assist us vastly in accessing joy and raising our frequency, a simple practice I like to do is at the end of each day sit and either write down or simple meditate on 5 things you are grateful for. It brings us back into the present and makes us aware that no matter what is happening outside ourselves there is always something to be grateful for and by cultivating that in the present moment we can attract more of the same. This raises our frequency and vibration and invites joy into our being.

The history of Yoni (this is a sanskrit word meaning source, womb or vagina) Steaming is complex and obscure, as the tradition, process and recipes are mostly passed down orally the western researchers on the topic are dismissive about its origins and validity, as unfortunately so often happens with traditional or alternative healing practices. I am continually saddened by how little validation we give to these types of healing practices that are passed from medicine woman to medicine woman over centuries of accumulated knowledge, but we are happy to believe and put our lives in the hands of profiteering pharmaceutical companies and their products. Anyway that’s a rant for another day… Today we talk yoni steam.
This practice goes back many millennia and has been used by ancients cultures spanning the globe, also known as Bajos in South America, Chai yok in Korea and Peri-Steam Hydrotherapy in the west.
The practice of yoni steaming is revered by midwives, herbalists, healers, shamans and medicine women from all walks of life to connect with our bodies, and Pachamama (Mother Earth) and invite balance into our energetic field and lives.
The process is fairly simple, by using warm water and healing herbs and flowers a gentle steam for the vaginal area is created. By heating the herbs contained in the steam their medicinal properties are released and can be absorbed by the yoni. You then simply sit over the steam and allow the natural healing oils of the herbs to be absorbed, it’s basically a steam room for your vagina.
Before I continue please note that a yoni steam is NOT the same as douching. The purpose of this practice is NOT to clean your vagina, by design your vagina cleans itself and isn’t dirty. It is also NOT to tighten it up or to increase sexual pleasure for a man (insert eye roll here) Nor do you sit over a boiling pot of water and cook your lady parts (insert second eye roll here) This practice is for self-care, connecting to your body and your feminine energy and stepping into an energetic state for healing.
Right so if this concept is totally new to you, here is a quick explanation of what, why and how to yoni steam.
What: Yoni steams are made up of selected herbs and flowers that are beneficial for the body. The mixture is placed in water and heated up until it steams, it is really important to make sure that the water is not too hot so that the steam is gentle and mild and does not scold or is simply too hot making it uncomfortable and obviously dangerous if the steam is scolding hot. Also you want to make sure that the water isn’t boiling as this can damage the healing properties of the herbs never-mind the unpleasant effects it could have on your vagina… Ouch. Think of making a nice cup of herbal tea for your yoni. That is what your aiming for, steaming but not boiling.
Why: This is my personal why, I am sharing my personal why because I am not a medical practitioner and have no need to make claims as to the medical benefits so I will share with you my personal experience and the benefits I have actually experienced first hand from this practice.
After I had my son (7 years ago now) I began to suffer from vaginal dryness, this got worse after I had cervical cancer and lost my cervix and uterus in 2018. The discomfort from this was often really awful and nothing I tried helped until I started playing around with steaming.
I tried a few different steams from other people which worked well, but as I work with herbs myself I was guided to create my own - this was how the Ascention Flowstate and Hara to Heart Steams were born. These combos changed my yoni and made her happy again. The dryness and discomfort is now a thing of the past and I am truly grateful to this practice for that.
Although personally I do this practice more for the energetic and spiritual healing it provides. I use it to clear my energy field and reconnect me deeply to Pacha Mama my feminine energy and guides. It is a powerful meditative experience and an incredible practice to shift old heavy hucha energy from the body and especially form the root and sacral centres with the Flowstate steam and to connect the Hara (sacral centre) to the Heart with the Hara to Heart steam, opening up our feminine creativity and intuition and connecting it to the knowledge, trust and guidance of the heart centre.
As well as clearing the energetic field and opening the channels of the Earth star and Soul star centres.
But besides all that, it is simply a really pleasant and nurturing time to spend with yourself and your yoni, a simple act of self care and love, so why the hell not.
How: I’m going to explain to you how to do a home steam as that is my practice and I am sharing from personal experience here. You start by purchasing your Yoni steam herbs such as the Ascention Yoni steams, or any that resonate with you.
You then place the herbs into water and heat it up until it steams but doesn’t boil. Use a smallish pot that you can place in either the bowl of your loo or in a bidet
(I use a bidet) or if you prefer you can squat over the pot. You can purchase a yoni steaming stool but I haven’t done so and haven’t tried one so can’t speak to that.
Basically you want to be as comfortable as possible. I place the pot into the bidet and then make a little pillow around it with towels to make it nice and comfy to sit on making sure my butt isn’t gonna touch the pot…. because…ouch.
Then you simply sit over the steam carefully at first making sure it is not too hot, I made it too hot the first time I tried and it was not the magical healing experience I had hoped for. Believe me you will know very quickly if it's too hot.
You then either wrap a blanket around your body or simply wear a big robe so that you can keep the steam in and stay seated there for as long as feels good to you. I generally sit in meditation with the steam for anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes.
This is a sacred practice so honour yourself and the process by making the space conducive, light some candles sage or palo santo before you begin and make sure you won’t be disturbed. Personally I like to run a bath before hand and move straight from my steam into the bath, I also strain the water from my steam into my bath and bath in the mixture as I find it is wonderful for my skin and adds a little extra healing to the whole experience.
So that’s my experience with this beautiful healing practice, there is a lot of contradicting information on the interwebs regarding yoni steaming, as there is with any so called alternative healing practices not owned and endorsed by big pharma, so I suggest you try it for yourself and make up your own mind.

Yes you are stressed! And you probably don't feel like there is anything you can do about it. The situation we find ourselves in globally is unprecedented to say the least and no-one....and I mean no-one knows what the *$#%^# is going on. Whether you are feeling pretty chill and are blessed enough to be financially secure and physically well or whether you're feeling utterly overwhelmed and terrified, I promise you that merely the current unnatural state we find ourselves in is sky rocketing your body's stress response and driving you into sympathetic-nervous system over load and stress loop. As human beings we are not designed to live in isolation (introvert or not) we need to interact with other people, in person. We need to see their faces and feel their energy. This is how we make sense of the world around us. So when we are in a state of isolation, and when we are constantly being fed a fear driven narrative; and this is unfortunately happening whether you follow the media hullabaloo or not. Its happening because that is the subconscious message that is being received by your nervous system when you pop to the shop and everyone around you is masked up and gloved with big fearful eyeballs staring out from under said masks while the squirt noxious chemical sanitizers at you. When you only see others faces on a screen. When all conversations are about fear and uncertainty. When you are bombarded with words and phrases like isolate, stay safe, protect yourself, protect your family, pandemic, quarantine etc, etc, etc. All of this creates a subconscious narrative of fear, lack, isolation, danger and uncertainty....basically a breading ground for a full on sympathetic nervous system party! So what does that mean for your health and your sanity.... well you've probably noticed that you're getting tired pretty quickly, or that you just don't feel like yourself or even beginning to feel ill or like you can't cope with even the slightest bit of stress, things that usually would have been no issue are suddenly overwhelming. This is all due to a sudden increase in your Allostatic Load - scary vague term but actually quite easy to unpack. Have a look at this nifty picture, its gonna show you kinda what happens in your body when your sympathetic nervous system gets triggered.
Okay so your brain takes in all of this information, everything you see, hear, feel etc. it then tells your body what it thinks is going on and releases chemicals and hormones (the panic juice) into your body as instructions for certain things to happen. Basically the hypothalamus sends a messages down your nervous system to your lungs to make your breath short, quick and shallow, your heart rate increases, your liver turns glycogen to glucose, your adrenal glands pump you full of adrenaline, your blood pressure goes up, and your digestive system slows down, you release Catecholamines (panic juice basically) your psoas, pectoral and shoulder girdle muscles tighten up ready for action and blood is driven from the organs and intestines to the extremities. Whamo sympathetic nervous system is a go!
The conversation looks a bit like this - Brain "Danger! Danger! I'm switching on your fight or flight mode and releasing the catecholamines" (big word for stress neurotransmitters & hormones aka Panic Juice - Epinephrine, Dopamine, Cortisol, Norephidrine)
Body "Okay! Cool I'm ready, let's go, lemme run, hide, fight, lemme at'em!"
The problem with this dialogue is that it doesn't work in our modern world where the threats are 99% invisible stress caused by the litany and constant bombardment of our environment. This system was designed to keep you safe from predators that wanted to eat you. Now the only thing that's eating you is your internal dialogue trying to make sense of this chaos.
So your Allostatic Load can be thought of as how much crap are you currently packing into your stress bag how much panic juice are you downing. How heavy is your load and what is that load you're carrying 24/7 doing to your physical, emotional and I believe most importantly spiritual health and well-being. The end result of this Allostatic Load getting outta control is that you get sick. Yup its that simple, our bodies simply weren't built for this. I don't care how hardcore you think you are or how badass you think it makes you to be under obscene amounts of stress, you can only do it for so long before this sh1t is gonna hit the fan and your body will collapse into illness. The list of stress induced illness is so freaking long I can write a Russian novel about it. It is by far the biggest threat we face as a society because being under the influence of the sympathetic nervous system and and allostatic overload makes us make crappy decisions, it lowers our ability to think clearly and to reason, it makes us fearful and easily manipulated. You are not yourself in these states and you cannot function from a place of truth and support when you are in this loop.
So break the loop! Step away from the panic juice! its easier than you think!....

What is your nervous system and how does it affect your daily well-being and overall health?
The human body is essentially made up of two nervous systems. The Sympathetic Nervous System commonly known as the Fight or Flight system and the Parasympathetic Nervous system commonly known as the rest & digest system, although I like to refer to this as the Calm & Clear system as it is when the parasympathetic nervous system is dominant that we are able to respond to life with calm and clarity as opposed to reactive stress driven responses.
Gaining an understanding of my nervous system and how it affected my health and overall well-being was one of the most life changing experiences I have had. Once you gain an understanding of these systems you can begin to take your health back into your own hands and understand how to heal and balance not only your mental health but your physical health as well.
This will not be an in-depth and technical exploration of anatomy and the nervous system rather an accessible explanation of how these two systems affect your life and what you can do to have control and power over which system rules.
Fundamentally our bodies and brain are still quite primitive in the way they respond to stress, when stress is triggered in the brain, it activates the release of a cocktail of hormones and chemicals in to your body, these consist of stress hormones - dopamine, epinephrine (also known as adrenaline), norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and especially cortisol. This stress hormone cocktail triggers the body to activate the Sympathetic Nervous System, which tells your body that you are in danger and you probably need to run away or fight your way out of this situation; because in our primitive incarnation this would have been the case, you would have been confronted by a predator trying to eat you. So your body prepares you for this by taking blood from the organs and digestive system and diverting it to your extremities so you can run and fight. By speeding up your breath so that you are taking shorter more shallow breaths and as such raising your heart rate. The psoas (hip flexor) muscles as well as the pectoral and trapezius muscles around the neck and chest tighten in preparation for action. These are only some of the effects of the Sympathetic Nervous System being triggered the list goes on and is quite complex but to serve for this post, I will leave it at this. Basically your body does what it believes is necessary for you to survive and it does this with the intention that you will take quick action and either escape to safety or be dead so the intention is never for the body to stay in this state for any extended period of time. But due to the nature of our modern stressors this process no longer looks quite the same. What happens in our modern environment is that the stress is pervasive and mostly mental. It is based in worries, concerns and fears for our financial survival and seldom based on an actual immediate physical threat. So the body doesn’t do what it was designed to, it experiences the rush of stress after the email, or the call from the boss, or the unreasonable dead line, or unexpected bill and instead of using the stress hormone cocktail and running or fighting our way to safety we sit, we stay still in front of our laptop, in the car, in the meeting. Our brain then believes that we have frozen out of fear and to try and save us it sends more of the stress cocktail into our system, and so what is known as the stress loop or Sympathetic Overload or Overdrive takes hold. This state over time results in a litany of physical, mental and emotional maladies, you only have to type “stress related illness” into google to be shocked at what a scourge this is on our human experience, stress is by far the biggest threat and killer we have ever confronted.
BUT there is a simple solution and it's in your hands to access it.
Here comes the hero in this story, your Parasympathetic Nervous System! When the Parasympathetic Nervous System is in control the body returns to normal healthy function, it moves out of survival mode and into thrive mode. Blood circulation normalises, breath deepens and slows, the digestive system re-ignites, the heart rate stabilises and the hormones and chemicals that make us feel happy, calm, creative, clear minded and at peace flood the system. The immune system self regulates by lowering acidity creating a stronger immunity and a more alkaline environment (it is important here to also understand that stress leads to high acidity in the body and all viruses and disease including cancers can only survive or take hold in an acidic environment, an alkaline body cannot sustain disease) This makes us physically healthier and more resilient as well as lowering anxiety and lifting depression.
A simple way of accessing the Parasympathetic Nervous System is by understanding and stimulating the Vagus Nerve.
What is the vagus nerve?
The vagal nerve originates in the brain as cranial nerve 10 and is the longest nerve in the body, it travels down the neck and throat and passes around the heart, lungs, digestive system, liver, spleen and pancreas. This nerve is the major player in your Parasympathetic Nervous System, which as discussed above is our ‘rest and digest / Calm & Clear system. The name Vagus nerve comes from the Latin for “wondering” as this nerve innervates so much of our body it was aptly named the wandering nerve or vagus nerve.
Ok, so how do you alchamise the nervous system and increase health?
We focus firstly on Vagal Tone. The tone of the vagus nerve is key to activating the parasympathetic nervous system. We measure vagal tone by tracking your heart-rate alongside your breathing rate. Your heart-rate speeds up a little when breathing in, and slows down a little when breathing out. The bigger the difference between your inhalation rate and your exhalation rate, the higher your vagal tone. Higher vagal tone means that your body can relax faster after stress. Meaning that you are more likely to quickly and more easily switch back into the Parasympathetic Nervous System after stress.
What does that mean for your health?
High vagal tone improves the function of many body systems, causing better blood sugar regulation, reduced risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease, lower blood pressure, improved digestion via better production of basic stomach and digestive enzymes, as well as reducing stress induced migraines and headaches. Higher vagal tone is also associated with better mood, less anxiety and higher stress resilience. One of the most interesting roles of the vagus nerve is that it essentially interprets and decodes the gut microbiome and initiates a response to modulate inflammation based on whether or not it detects pathogenic versus non-pathogenic organisms. We understand through much research into the connection of the gut in mental and physical wellbeing that the gut microbiome has a direct affect on your mood, stress regulation and overall inflammation, so we want the ability for the vagus nerve to read and interpret these signals from the gut to be high.
What happens to your body if your vagal tone is low?
Low vagal tone is directly associated with cardiovascular conditions and strokes as well as depression, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, cognitive impairment, and much higher rates of inflammatory conditions. Inflammatory conditions include all autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, endometriosis, autoimmune thyroid conditions, lupus this list goes on and on.
So what do you do now?
This is the good news part! You have total control over and access to increasing your vagal tone and activating your Parasympathetic Nervous System on your own, but it requires commitment and regular practice. To some degree, we are all genetically predisposed to varying levels of vagal tone, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t change it.
Here are some ways that you can tone the vagus nerve and switch on your Parasympathetic Nervous System:
Breath: By using a simple 2 to 1 breathing technique you can easily stimulate the vagus nerve and the Parasympathetic Nervous System. Simply place your hands on your belly and your heart, then breathe deeply into the belly allowing the diaphragm and lungs to expand for 4 counts and then very slowly breathe out for 8 counts. If you are very stressed already and find it difficult to do a whole 4 counts in and 8 out then starts smaller with 3/6 or 2/4 counts and work your way up.
Movement: Practicing conscious breath and movement based exercise such as yoga and Pilates can hugely assist in increasing vagal tone as well as activating the Parasympathetic Nervous System.
Chanting, Humming or Singing: Since the vagus nerve is connected to the vocal cords, humming mechanically stimulates it. Chanting OM is a really simple practice that works brilliantly or even just humming a tune you like or if you’re a better singer than me then sing!
Meditation: Personally I believe that meditation is the answer to all life’s questions but a 2010 study by Barbara Fredrickson and Bethany Kik found that loving kindness meditations such as Tonglen increasing positive emotions leading to increased social closeness (even while social distancing ;-) and an improvement in vagal tone.
Probiotics: Balancing the gut microbiome - the presence of healthy bacteria in the gut creates a positive feedback loop through the vagus nerve, increasing its tone. By simply taking a daily probiotic the effects and implications for your overall health, and in particular on inflammation are far-reaching. If you suffer from any inflammatory condition, digestive upset, high blood pressure or depression, I highly recommend you investigate your vagal tone.
Stress / Trauma release positions: We’ve known for years that breathing exercises and meditation greatly improve our health, but it is so incredible to learn and understand the mechanism by which they work. To add to these practices we can create a physical feed back loop from the body to the brain to tell the brain that we are not in danger. This can be done by using a simple position such as Supta baddah konasana or bound angle pose. To get into this pose lie with your feet together and your knees splayed apart in a diamond shape, place pillows or supports under your knees so that you are not straining to maintain the position, then let your arms drop open slightly above you with your palms up and hands open, support your head and neck with a pillow. Basically make sure that you are as comfortable as possible in this position and allow the whole front of your body to be open and fully exposed.
Cold Water: By simply splashing your face with cold water or using a jolt of cold water at the end of your shower you can stimulate your vagus nerve. The mechanism here is not fully known, but cold water has been shown to stimulate the vagus nerve. Lock-Down, what a peculiar state we find ourselves in?
The year of outward possibility and excitement has turned instead to one of inward exploration and contemplation.
I for one knew this was going to be a year of big change and quantum leaps of growth but little did I know it was going to happen with the threat of pandemic and physical lock-down. What a beautiful equaliser and reminder than we are all equal and connected this little virus has become.

After a life long fascination with and calling to Goddess archetype energy, as well as a fascination and study of the body’s energy centres I began in 2015 to actively work with and explore the concept of these centres and their ability to assist us in healing and in connecting deeper with the Goddess archetype energy within. This started in my practice and determination to heal myself and better understand what the underlying causes of both physical and emotional issues I experienced were; being diagnosed with Bi-polar, PTSD and borderline personality disorder in my early teens, as well as struggling with various forms of addiction, I wanted to know how I could approach these issues and heal without the use of Western medicine and mainstream psychology. To take my healing and spiritual growth into my own hands and honour my true self and soul calling. Which through this and accompanying holistic practices is what I did and continue to do; this process also assisted me in understanding the root causes of most of the issues I had come up against in my life and how to heal and understand my core wounding in order to prevent and stop the further repetition of patterns and behaviours that were not in service or aligned with my highest good.
As a modern society we have forgotten the value of gathering in ceremony, in a manner where all participants are viewed as equal and valuable contributors to the whole. In a manner that allows for a safe space to feel, learn, experience, express and grow. We’ve forgotten what it truly means to be held in a safe space, without judgment or the need to conform to any preset. A space in which we are safely held to explore both the internal and external realms.
Creating this space is my intention with an Alchemy Cacao Ceremony, with the aid of the Sacred Plant Medicine that is Cacao the container in which we are held is created. Mama Cacao when called wraps her arms around us and take us on a journey into our hearts so that we my shed the layers of mis-truths that have been wrapped around our being to begin to reconnect with our essence and the fundamental sovereign nature of our souls.
Ceremony is held in various different formats and with varying components depending on the themes and topics being explored, but will always consist of the opening of sacred space to create the container in which we will work and then generally an introduction to the theme, an introduction and calling of Mama Cacao, consumption of the Cacao, a meditation or some form of practice and then a voluntary opportunity to share and discuss your experience. Finally the sacred space will be again closed and the medicine thanked.
As an energetic intuitive and channel these aspects are often part of my ceremonies and there might be times when I will be channeling a non-physical presence that wishes to add to the space, this is done through my allowance of this channel and is always done in a safe and respectful way to those present.
Although ceremonies are fun and often lighthearted this is a Divine, Powerful and Sacred medicine and practice and should not be entered into without that understanding.

Cacao and the Heart: Cacao’s positive impact on the heart can be found not only on an emotional or spiritual level, but also physically. Studies have shown that regularly consuming cacao is good for the physical health of your heart and can reduce your chances of suffering from heart disease. In particular, cacao can improve the functioning of blood vessels, reduce insulin resistance, reduce blood pressure and reduce both LDL and HDL cholesterol. These findings were confirmed in a study by The American Medical Journal of Clinical Nutrition, which found that cacao has statistically significant effects on the above risk factors for heart disease.
